Abdul Hamid is a powerful and decent politician of Bangladesh. He is so much popular in his local area Mithamain Upazila as well as across the country. Hamid gets the huge media attention for his funny and rhetorical speeches. He elected as the 20th president following the death of Zillur Rahman in March 2013. Hamid was awarded Shadhinata Padak in 2013 for his outstanding contribution in the liberation war of Bangladesh.
Abdul Hamid Early Life:
Abdul Hamid was born on January 1, 1944, in Kamalpur, Mithamainm Kishoreganj which is a remote corner of the country. Md Tayebuddin is his father and the mother is Tomiza Khatun. He completed primary education from village primary school.
After completing schooling, he moved to Bhairabpur in a relative house in pursuing a better education and joined Bhairab K.B. Pilot High School and completed secondary education. Then he enrolled at Gurudayal Government College and completed Higher Secondary Education and B.A. degree from the college.
Abdul Hamid Career:
Advocate Abdul Hamid started career practicing lawyer in the Kishoreganj Judge Court. He was elected president of Kishoreganj Bar Association several times. In 1959, Hamid joined Bangladesh Chatra League and became the Vice-president of Gurudayal Government and later Vice-president of Mymensingh District Chatra League. In 1969, he joined Bangladesh Awami League and participated in the 1970 Pakistan general election.
As a candidate of Awami League, he won the election for the Mymensingh-18 constituency. At that time, he was the youngest parliament member. Including election of 1970, he won total seven parliamentary elections in 1973, 1986, 1996, 2001 and 2009. Hamid was appointed as the Speaker of the National Parliament on January 25, 2009.
On March 2013, Abdul Hamid was appointed as the acting President of Bangladesh while Zillur Rahman was hospitalized in Singapore and died six days later. Later on April 22, 2013, he was appointed President of Bangladesh.
Personal Life:
Abdul Hamid married Rashida Hamid. The couple has three sons- Rejwan Ahammad Taufiq, Rasel Ahmed Tuhin, Riad Ahmed, and a daughter Shorna Hamid.
