Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is a politician of Bangladeshi who is the current Secretary General of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). Earlier, he served as the acting Secretary General of the party for five years since 2001. Alamgir also elected Member of Parliament from Thakurgaon-1 constituency in 2001 and served as a state minister. He is considered one of the talented and decent politicians of the country although his party passing a crisis situation.

Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was born on August 01, 1948 in Thakurgaon, Bangladesh. His father Mirza Ruhul Amin was a renowned politician of the country and elected a Member of Parliament from the area. Mirza Ruhul Amin was also a lawyer. He completed Master’s degree with honors from the University of Dhaka in Economics.

Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir Career:

After completing education, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir kicked off career journey as a teacher at the Dhaka College through BCS. The talented guy worked as a secretary of Deputy Prime Minister S.A. Bari until his resigned in 1982 under the President Ziaur Rahman.

Fakhrul Islam Politic:

Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir comes to the mainstream politics in the 1980s. He is was active in student politics during the study at Dhaka University and associated with the Bangladesh Student Union and served as president during the ‘1969 uprising’.

BNP’s chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia named him as the acting secretary general in 2001, following the death of secretary general Khandaker Delwar Hossain. In 2008, in the fifth national council of BNP, he named as senior joint secretary general that post previously held by Tarique Rahman.

Mirza gets the huge media attention of the country as the BNP’s spokesperson and frequently criticized the government in different issues. After Pilkhana massacre, he widely criticized the Awami League government not to properly investigate the matter.

Attacks on Mirza Fakhrul Islam:

On August 02, 2011, Alamgir’s motorcade went to under an attack by an armed mob in Lakshmipur approaching attend a party meeting. The attackers were not identified but Alamgir claimed they are members of ruling party Awami League.

On 18, 2017, Mirza’s motorcade again has been attacked by the miscreant in Chittagong’s Rangunia during the going to visit landslide affected area in the Chittagong Hill Tracts. Fakhrul states amid heavy rain youth began to hit the vehicle with sharp weapons and stones.

Personal Life:

Fakhrul Islam Alamgir married to Rahat Ara Begum who is highly educated woman studied at the University of Calcutta and has been working in Insurance Company in Dhaka. The couple together has two daughters named Mirza Shamaruh and Mirza Safaruh. Two sisters attended at the University of Dhaka, Shamaruh is a teacher in the Institute and Safaruh also a teacher in a school, Dhaka.
