Dr. Bijan Kumar Shill is a famous Bangladeshi scientist, researcher, and teacher who currently works in the Gonoshasthaya Kendra. He comes to the timeline when he invented Rapid Dot Blot Kit to detect COVID-19. He invented a kit handed over to the government on April 25, 2020, which can detect the coronavirus in less than 15 minutes. Although it has some limitations but could help on a larger scale in a crisis situation.
Early Life, Education, Family
Bijan Kumar was born in 1961, in Baraigram, Natore, Bangladeshi to parents Rashik Chandra Shill and Kironmoyee Shill. He is the fifth of six children born to his parents. He belongs to a farmer family and used to help his father in agricultural activities in childhood.
He studied at Saint Joseph’s High School and College, Bonpara, Natore. Then Bijan admitted into Edward College, Pabna, and completed HSC from the college. He enrolled at Bangladeshi Agriculture University and recieved his bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Science. Also, he did post-graduation in Microbiology from the same university. Then he completed his Ph. D from the University of Surrey, England.
Bijan Kumar joined as a teacher at the National University of Singapore.
