Jose Mujica is an Uruguayan politician, a former guerrilla fighter and president of Uruguay. He was Agriculture Minister from 2005 to 2008. He is considered the poorest president in the world because he donates 90 percent of his salary. He has donated salaries to poor people and small entrepreneurs.
Jose Mujica Early life:
Jose Mujica was born on 20 May 1935 to the father, Demetrio Mujica, and mother, Lucy Cordano. In 1940, when Mujica was five his father died who was a small farmer and went bankrupt. Mujica’s mother’s parents were extremely poor immigrants from Italy. Mujica cycled for several clubs in his early life.
Jose Mujica Career:
Mujica joined the Tupamaros movement, an armed political group inspired by the Cuban revolution in the early 1960s. As a leader of the leftist guerrilla group, he went out into the forest of Uruguay in the meantime he was shot six times. He was convicted by a military tribunal under the government of Jorge Pacheco Areco. Mujica was the politician who escaped the Punta Carrets Prison in 1971 and captured by the authorities on four occasions. He was in prison continuously for 14 years. After the restoration of democracy, he released from prison and return under the democratic section.
On 1 March 2005, he was elected as the Minister of Livestock, Agriculture, and Fisheries and resigned his position senator. In October 2010, Mujica won the parliamentary majority for the next legislature (2010–2015) and become the president of Uruguay. He is well known for the informal dress, Mujica donned a suit without a tie.
Jose Mujica Personal life:
Mujica married Lucia Topolansky in 2005 a current senator after many years of cohabitation. They have no children. They cultivate chrysanthemums on a farm on the outskirts of Montevideo as an economic activity. Mujica and his wife are super chill and he even has no driver president, drives his own car, an old light blue Volkswagen Beetle. Mujica’s wife owns the farm they live on.
