
Tasnim Jara (Bengali: তাসনিম জারা; born 7 October 1994) is a Bangladeshi physician, researcher, entrepreneur, and politician. An NHS doctor trained in medicine at Dhaka Medical College and educated at the University of Oxford, she is widely known for using social media to deliver accurate health information to Bengali-speaking audiences. Jara entered national politics through the National Citizen Party (NCP), serving as its Senior Joint Member Secretary before contesting the 2026 general election as an independent candidate in the Dhaka-9 constituency.

Early Life and Education
Tasnim Jara was born and raised in Dhaka, Bangladesh. She completed her Higher Secondary Certificate from Viqarunnisa Noon School and College in Dhaka. She then studied medicine at Dhaka Medical College, where she earned her MBBS degree. Later, she pursued a Master’s degree in Evidence-Based Health Care at the University of Oxford, graduating with distinction.
Medical Career and Research
Jara began her medical career at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. In 2019, she moved to the United Kingdom, where she has worked as an emergency medicine doctor within the NHS. Since 2021, she has been an internal medicine specialist at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Alongside clinical practice, she has contributed to undergraduate medical education at the University of Cambridge, serving as a clinical supervisor.
As a researcher, Jara has co-authored articles in international peer-reviewed journals, including JACC: Cardiovascular Interventions and Frontiers in Global Women’s Health. Her research interests range from cardiovascular procedures to community-based mental health initiatives in rural Bangladesh.
Entrepreneurship
Jara is a co-founder of Shohay Health, a digital platform that provides reliable health information to Bengali-speaking communities. In 2023, she contributed to the development of the Shohay Pregnancy app, a week-by-week pregnancy guidance tool tailored to users in Bangladesh. The app has been described as the leading pregnancy app in the country.
Health Communication and Social Media
At the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Jara began producing Bengali-language health videos on social media, covering topics such as COVID-19 prevention, vaccination education, reproductive health, and mental wellness. Her content has amassed significant reach across platforms, with over 12 million followers and hundreds of millions of views, and has been featured by outlets including the Financial Times and ITV.
Political Career
Jara became involved in politics in 2024 through the Jatiya Nagorik Committee (JNC), a citizens’ coalition formed after the July 2024 uprising. She helped establish the committee’s diaspora wing before taking a leadership role in the subsequently formed National Citizen Party (NCP).
In February 2025, she was appointed as one of the Senior Joint Member Secretaries of the NCP and was part of the party’s Political Council, a ten-member executive body often referred to in the media as the “Super 10.” During her tenure, she publicly advocated for transparency and accountability within the party, including raising questions about financial disclosures by senior officials.
On 27 December 2025, Jara resigned from her position in the NCP. She subsequently contested the 2026 general election as an independent candidate from the Dhaka-9 constituency, campaigning on a reform platform. She was allocated the football as her election symbol but did not win the seat, receiving over 44,000 votes.
Personal Life
Tasnim Jara is married to Khaled Saifullah, a Bangladeshi tech entrepreneur and human rights activist who studied human rights law at the University of Oxford and also held a leadership role in the National Citizen Party.
Awards and Recognition
In 2021, Jara was featured in a photo mosaic titled “The Luminaries,” created by the UK photography and design studio The People’s Picture and unveiled at the G7 Global Vaccine Confidence Summit. The Business Standard named her a “changemaker” in 2021, citing her use of digital platforms to counter medical misinformation during the pandemic.
Activism
In 2014, Jara was elected President of the United Nations Youth Advisory Panel in Bangladesh, advising the UN on youth engagement and policy development. She has also spoken publicly in support of mental health education in schools to reduce stigma and improve access to care.
