His father, Naziur Rahman Manzur, was a veteran politician, a former minister, the founding chairman of the Bangladesh Jatiya Party and a former Mayor of Dhaka, who also participated in the Liberation War of 1971. His mother, Sheikh Reba, belongs to the renowned Sheikh family of Tungipara – the same clan of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding father of Bangladesh and the country’s first President.

Through his paternal grandfather, Bazlur Rahman, Partho is a direct descendant of Munga Khan, an eighteenth-century figure who came to Bengal from Garmsir, Afghanistan, and whose family later established themselves as zamindars of Balia in Bhola.

Education & Legal Career

Partho studied at St. Joseph Higher Secondary School in Dhaka before moving to London to pursue an LL.B. degree at the University of London. He was called to the Bar at Lincoln’s Inn in 1997. Returning to Bangladesh, he joined as an apprentice under the supervision of senior lawyer Barrister Rafiqul Haque and worked with him for several years. He has since practised as a barrister in Dhaka and also served as the Principal of the British School of Law in Dhaka.

Political Career

Partho was active in politics alongside his father from a young age and formally joined the political arena in 2000. In the 2001 general election he played an important role in securing the Bhola-1 seat for the four-party alliance. After his father’s death in April 2008, he was elected Chairman of the Bangladesh Jatiya Party.

In the 9th parliamentary election of 2008, he was elected Member of Parliament from Bhola-1, becoming one of the youngest members of the House. His party boycotted the 2014 election under BNP leadership, and he subsequently contested in the 11th parliamentary elections under broader opposition alliances.

In the 12th general election held in February 2026, Partho returned to Parliament after winning the Bhola-1 seat with a decisive margin. Later, on 21 August 2026, he was appointed Minister for Information and Broadcasting in the government led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
