Richa Chadda was born on December 18, 1986, in Amritsar, India to Sonesh Chadda and Kusum Chadda. Her father is a businessman while her mother is a professor in Delhi University. After completing her schooling at Sardar Patel Vidyalaya in New Delhi, she graduated with a Bachelor in History from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi. She later took a PG Diploma in Social Communications Media from Sophia Polytechnic.

Richa Chadda was very interested in academics and cultural activities which made her an all-rounder in school. She started her career as a model and then Richa moved to theater, later she performed plays all over India and Pakistan. Richa made her film debut with a bit role in the comedy film ‘Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!’ in 2008. After that, she worked as a supporting actress in several films.
Her major career breakthrough came playing a supporting role in the film ‘Gangs of Wasseypur-Part 1’ in 2012. In the movie, her role was as the bellicose and extremely foul-tongued wife of a gangster for which Richa got ‘Filmfare Award’.
In 2015, Chadda appeared in a leading role with the drama film ‘Masaan’ playing a girl caught in a blackmail situation after indulging in casual sex. The film got standing acclaim and appreciation when it screened at the Cannes film festival. It has been cited as a milestone in Richa’s career.
