She has two brothers named Sarthak Vij and Sanat Vij. The actress considers her mother to be her best friend in the world. Currently, Riya is pursuing her studies in Sanskriti School.

The young talented actress Riya Vij made her film debut with famous director Karan Johar’s children feature movie ‘Gippi’ in 2013. She played the lead character Gurpreet Kaur in the movie, who gets bullied by others because of her weight.
In 2014, Riya appeared in Bollywood action movie ‘Kick’ directed by Sajid Nadiadwala. It was an official remake of the Telugu film ‘Kick’. In it, she played a supporting role while Salman Khan, Jacqueline Fernandez and Randeep Hooda were in the lead roles. Nawazuddin Siddiqui portrayed the main antagonist character in the movie.
Riya acted as a supporting role in the comedy drama movie ‘Kapoor & Sons’ that was released worldwide on March 18, 2016. It was directed by Shakun Batra where Sidharth Malhotra, Alia Bhatt, and Fawad Khan played the leading roles while Rishi Kapoor, Rajat Kapoor, and Ratna Pathak were cast to play supporting roles.
