Elena Kazan was born in 1990, in Moscow, Russia to German parents. Her father is a teacher of Economies while her mother is a nurse. Before moving to Berlin with her family, she spent her childhood in Ukraine. Elena shifted to the USA for higher studies at the age of 16. Later she went to Kolkata, India to work with a voluntary organization where she taught the German language at Max Mueller Bhavan. Then the lady traveled many parts of India and learned Hindi. She did not take any kind of formal acting training.

Elena Kazan worked in Kolkata as an interpreter with Indo-German Chamber of Commerce. During working as a Unit Hand in an Australian short film, she got an opportunity to act in a Bengali movie. Then she made her film debut with ‘Clerk’ opposite Prosenjit Chatterjee in 2010. Next year, Elena starred in the drama film ‘Gandhi to Hitler’ which earned an average gross at the box office.
Her first breakthrough came entering into Bollywood with the movie ‘John Day’ where she played the most important role Tabassum Habibi with Naseeruddin Shah, Vipin Sharma and Randeep Hooda in 2013. Then she appeared in several Hindi movies including ‘Prague’, ‘Agent Vinod’ and ‘Uvaa’.
