Vaibhavi Merchant is a renowned Indian dance choreographer. She is well known for her choreographic work in numerous Bollywood films. Vaibhavi Merchant was born on December 17, 1976, in India to Ramesh Merchant and Hridaya Merchant. Classical dance choreographer Hiralal Merchant was her grandfather. She is the niece of choreographer Chinni Prakash as well as Rekha Chinni Prakash and sister of Shruti Merchant. Her formal training on choreography started at the age of only 5 which ended at 17.
Vaibhavi Merchant Career:
Vaibhavi Merchant started her career as an assistant choreographer of her uncle Chinni Prakash in 1999. She did her first solo work for the song ‘Dhol Baaje’ in the movie Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam for which she won a National Film Award. Then Vaibhavi took a short break from the industry and returned with the song ‘O Ri Chhori’ in the movie Lagaan in 2011.
Then she performed ‘Kajra re….’ for Bunty Aur Babli that fetched her several awards. She continued to choreograph in several popular films like Devdas, Dhoom, Veer Zaara and Aaja Nachle. She also choreographed the Australian musical ‘The Merchants of Bollywood’ which is a musical written by Toby Gough about her family.
The famous choreographer Vaibhavi Merchant also acted in two movies. She made the film debut with the Malayalam romantic movie ‘Snehapoorvam Anna’ where she played the character of an innocent girl Anna with Nedumudi Venu in 2000. After 12 years later, Vaibhavi again appeared as a special guest in Hindi romantic film ‘Student of the Year’.
Vaibhavi Merchant is also working as a judge on some television reality shows including ‘Nach Baliye 3’, ‘Zara Nach Ke Dikha 2’ and ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa season 3’.
