Atiqul Islam is a successful businessman and former president of BGMEA. He is the founder of Islam group, a leading readymade garment manufacturing company in Bangladesh. Islam comes to the timeline around the country when his name came up for the Dhaka North City Corporation’s polls, following the death of first mayor Dhaka North City Anisul Huq. He got the green signal from ruling party Awami League to become a candidate at the eve of city corporation election. Finally, Atiqul got the nomination from the ruling party Awami League for the mayoral race in Dhaka North City Corporation and become the mayor of DNCC.
Atiqul Islam Early Life:
Md Atiqul Islam was born on July 1, 1961, in Daudkandi, Comilla, Bangladesh in a rich family. His father Momtajuddin Ahmed was a senior officer of Police and the mother Mazeda Ahmed was a housewife. Islam’s father died on January 16, 1993, and mother on January 13, 2006. Atiqul is younger among eleven siblings. He studied at BAF Shaheen College, Dhaka where he completed SSC and HSC. Then he enrolled at Dhaka University and completed graduation from the university.
His elder brother Md. Tafazzul Islam was the 17th chief justice of Bangladesh Supreme Court who played a vital role in the judiciary of Bangladesh sincerely. Another brother Mainul Islam was a lieutenant general of the Bangladesh Army. His brother Shariful Islam is the chairman of Islam group has contributed to the economy of Bangladesh. Islam’s family has been playing a vital role in the progress of education.
Atiqul Islam Career:
Atiqul Islam kicked off the journey in the readymade garment industry in 1985. Following the 32 years of hard working, he established the Islam Group. He got huge popularity in the business arena for his honesty and astute leadership in the business sector alongside business success. He became the president of BGMEA (Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association) in 2013 by using his business stardom.
During playing his role, he keeps an effective role in banned child labor in the garments industry. He established several hospitals around the Dhaka city for better treatment of garments worker. Atiqul has been received Commercial Important Person (CIP) award for three times. He was awarded eight times from Walmart as a most successful entrepreneur. In his industry, more than 18 thousand employees are working.
