Tammy Duckworth is an American politician and former U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel who draws wide media attention when she was wounded in Iraq. Duckworth is a Democratic politician who is serving as the junior United States Senator for Illinois since 2017. Tammy also represented Illinois’ 8th district in the United States House of Representatives. She was an Assistant Secretary for Public and Intergovernmental Affairs.  Tammy is the first Asian-American woman amputee elected to Congress in Illinois.

She lost her both legs in Iraq in 2004 when falling a fireball at the knee and was the first double amputee in the war. Duckworth married Bryan Bowlsbey. Together the couple has a daughter named Abigail, who was born in 2014. Possibly, she will be the Senate’s first new mom.
