Amy Klobuchar was born on May 25, 1960, in Plymouth, Minnesota, United States to parents Jim Klobuchar and Rose Klobuchar. Her father Jim Klobuchar was a miner on Minnesota’s Iron Range whereas the mother is an author, sportswriter, and columnist who retired from the Star Tribune.
Her maternal grandparents were immigrants from Switzerland and her paternal grandparents were from Slovenia. Amy’s parents divorced at 15 years old. The divorce resulted in a miserable condition in her early life.
Amy Klobuchar studied at Wayzata High School. Next, she enrolled at Yale University and recieved her Bachelor of Arts in political science in 1982. She worked as an intern for former Minnesota senator Walter Mondale. Then she studied at the University of Chicago Law School and earned her Juris Doctor in 1985.

Amy Klobuchar tied the knot with John Bessler, a professor at the University of Baltimore School of Law and an attorney for private practice. Together the couple has a daughter named Abigail Klobuchar Bessler born in 1993.
