The world poet Rabindranath Tagore was a famous poet of Bengali literature and he is considered the best writer in Bengali history. Rabindranath Tagore is well-known as The World Poet and Kobi Guru (master of the poet) in Bangladesh who magnificently reshaped Bengali literature.

He is the leading Bengali poet, musician, short story writer, philosopher, dramatist, painter singer, and actor. Rabindranath’s works have been translated into various languages around the world. He is the first Non-European novel laureate in literature.

Early Life:

Rabindranath Tagore was born on May 7, 1861, in Kolkata, India to Debendranath Tagore and Sarada Devi. He was born into a wealthy and cultured Brahmo family and his father Debendranath Tagore was a leader of Brahmo Samaj.

He did not take formal schooling in his early childhood thereby primary education was given to him by a private tutor at his home. Rabindranath Tagore began to write poetry when he was only eight years old. He sparked writing techniques from his early childhood and ‘Tattvabodhini Journal’ published his first poem Abhilas in 1874.

Career:

Rabindranath Tagore is regarded as an outstanding creative writer in Indian culture as well as in the whole world. He wrote near about two thousand songs, thirty-eight dramas, and ninety-five short stories.

He visited England for the first time when he was only seventeen years old. In 1890, he started to live in Shilaidaha, Kumarkhali, Kushtia, Bangladesh where he met with Bengali saint, Lalon Shah. In 1905, he becomes involved in the movement the anti-Partition of Bengal.

He officially established Visva Bharati in 1923. Rabindranath Tagore visited many countries around the world and preached the world’s brotherhood. He got a Novel prize in literature for his literary work Gitanjali: Song Offerings in 1913.

Personal Life:

The world poet Rabindranath married Mrinalini Devi in 1883 and his wife died in 1902. They had five children and two of them died in early childhood.
